17 seconds to load a website, on a phone

A website taking 17 seconds to load on mobile

884 Google reviews, and a site nobody waits long enough to see.

17 seconds.

That is how long a local bakery's website takes to appear on a phone.

884 Google reviews. A golden reputation. And a site nobody ever waits long enough to see.

This summer we audited several Belgian shop and SME websites. The same pattern comes back almost every time:

Search visibility is fine. Google finds the site.

The design is decent. Nobody leaves because of the colours.

But on a phone, the page takes 14 or 17 seconds to show up.

And that is where everything is decided. Your customers look for your opening hours, your menu, your phone number from their mobile. By the fourth second, they are already at your competitor's.

What our audits keep telling us: the problem is almost never what you see. It is what you do not see. Images that are far too heavy, useless scripts, tired hosting.

The good news: it takes ten minutes to measure, and it can almost always be fixed without rebuilding the site.
